China’s ban on ivory sales comes into force in ‘the greatest single step toward reducing elephant poaching’

A partial ban had already resulted in an 80 per cent decline in seizures of ivory entering China, according to the Xinhua state news agency. Domestic prices for raw ivory are down 65 per cent, it said. The total domestic ban was announced at the end of 2016.
